Summer Ahead

So the school semester is about the wrap up for students out there and soon it will be Summer and time to enjoy all the benefits of an awesome party season.  Leading up to summer is still a good lineup of shows we want to keep up to date with. First off is some good news for EDM in Cruces, with Pub Club Wednesday @ Hurricane Alley Pub.  This weekly/ bi-monthly event is bringing together some great talent and awesome music on Hurricane’s sound system. Not too much in Cruces going on like this so we definitely recommend checking it out! More info here

The same evening as Neon Desert Festival, The Barbed Wire Open Mic Series has been providing a solid spot for emcees and poets to rock the spot and vibe with other creative individuals. This is going down at the Percolator and they are even hosting an emcee battle at the beginning! Check it out here

With May comes La Parada to warm up your nightlife.  This month’s looks to be big with heavyweights Radio La Chusma playing as well as Mariachi Zacatecano rocking the full band – and DJs Rob Bass, System Addict, One Man Jazz and Ocatvio PD spinning those essential beats. More info here

Looking a little farther ahead is the incredible Jesse Rose playing for the Night Creatures series brought by Pastilla Digital.  They are bringing this big talent in to play at the Black Pearl in EP – look for another post as the show approaches and another from the series – Tiefschwarz! We are definitely exited for the series to continue… more info here

That’s not all, make sure to check back soon for another dose of great shows between now and the end of May – there is alot going on! Thanks for checking back and see you soon!

First up we want to shout out to the PD crew doing it proper at Wax Wednesdays once again at Soho tomorrow. Gotta give love and respect to these guys bringing out the awesome vibes all the time. Here is another mainstay that is doing it super proper with more and more people coming through – its the one and only Darkroom Saturdays.  This week for April 23rd they have the EP favorite Nekstone coming back to El Paso for some more house love from one of the best spots for serious bass and perfect atmosphere. Rounding up the lineup is Sol – B, Preston and Noevol.  More info here

Here is a really dope one – Raekwon the Chef coming through on the 27th of this month at the Lowbrow Palace! Everybody should know who this lyricist is, and if you don’t than its time to find out! We are really excited to see this one go down so let’s see how much support we can bring! Dont miss it! More info here

Up North in NM they have Nasty Nasty to look forward to on April 30th at the Launchpad.  Nasty Nasty is definitely a top Dubstep producer who seems to fuse a balance between soul and bass with all the right melodies and moods. The rest of the lineup looks equally balanced with a slew of upcoming dubstep talent from the area. More info here

Before we wrap up we wanted to share a few photos from the Somethin Sweet show last weekend. It was a stomping good time and everyone who showed up had a blast! Our camera died before Jeff Craven went on but we can assure you it was off the hook! Enjoy

Make sure to stop by our 2550 DJs page and scope out J Bowra repping for DJ of the month this round. First off in the little city of Cruces; Krux Radio is doing their annual show KRUXFEST down at Mikey’s Place where Sum Art Fest and Co Op Rocks have been recently.  There is a nice variety of music going down going back and forth between bands and DJs, the lineup looks pretty fresh and we recommend checking it out this Friday! Simply the biggest thing to show up on our nearby radar is this one – a REAL festival with a massive lineup featuring everything from Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (of Mars Volta fame) to MSTRKRFT, Zechs Marquise and alot of other acts this is looking super impressive.  Going down on April 30th, click here for more info!

Last one we want to shout is Pig & Dan coming through April 23rd at the new Club Fuzion opening up on Yarbrough.  The news of a new club is always good and Pig and Dan throw down some serious tech house stormers.  These guys have been laying down tracks and remixes for a while now and we definitely recommend checking them out! More info here

Ok that wraps it up for today! We hear the Ruck show got cancelled this week as well as Alexi Delano got postponed due to an injury. Bummer! Check back next week, we will have an exclusive mix up for 2550 from local hit man Bliss! See you then!

In Session

Alright! We have been super busy again trying to stay caught up with all the dope shows and interesting things going down! Den Ishu sounds like it went down proper last night with extra sound to back up the next level DJ. Props to AMP and H.A.U.S. for bringing the serious raw talent.  Up North this week we have a dope one from Sound Evolution with Albuquerque heads like Rhythm Kicker, Sebby Frescoe and Aaron K. @ the Blackbird Buvette.  Look for more from this team in the upcoming months, it looks like some big things are in the works. More info here

April kicks off this month and we have another fresh La Parada to look forward to! This month they have Noevol, Max Pounder DJing along with mainstays Rob Bass and System A.  SoundOnSound will be doing a live performance as well.  We hear they are trying to expand La Parada into a larger format with new sound, more vendors and still the best vibes around! Something sweet

April also has a new monthly in El Paso called Something Sweet which opens with a killer lineup including Jeff Craven (owner of Large Music in Chicago) One Man Jazz, Raydub and mega Dubstep gangster Rob Bass.  This show looks like a super fresh idea starting at 4 pm and going into the evening of the 16th. Check it out here

So it looks like WMC and SXSW wrapped up with some fresh highlights and interesting stories so far. Tyler the Creator from Odd Future climbs higher in the hip hop hipster domain(and higher on speakers), exclusive shows and guest appearances popping up everywhere – its just a lot to miss.  Which we did, unfortunately.  To catch up we recommend surfing through a few of out links like urb.com and ones like remix report – http://remixreport.com/wmc-2011-recap/

Speaking of links, make sure to click on the right where it says, “Show Widgets” to see the links in the sidebar.

It is getting closer to festival time now that Spring is here and that means we are going to have a look at all the best and biggest things going down that are all probably sold out already (whack!) but are still worth checking out . Of course come back for a new DJ of the month for April as well as more shows and updates! We want to leave you with a killer new mix from TRiST!

Alexi Delano is going to make another El Paso appearance on April 2nd.  This dude throws down some seriously innovative techno and we always love to hear what he has going on.  It is going to be at Wet Ultra lounge and the rest of the details are  little slim, but check here for updates as they become available!

Sean Price AKA Ruck from Heltah Skeltah is doing a show on April 7th at the Low Brow Palace in El Paso.  It seems like Spring is the time for some good hip hop shows and we are hella excited to see them popping up more around here! Big Ruck brings the heat with tough street lyrics and heavy rhyme styles over brooding beats.  More info on this here

Last off we wanted to leave you guys with some shots from La Parada – an awesome spectacle where all had a good time. Check it out! As always thanks again for swinging by and look for more updates really soon! Thanks!

Charles Martino YO! So Darkroom Saturdays was dope last week with Charles Martino rocking out with some excellent tracks and even some swift scratches for that ass! Here is a fresh new mix exclusive to 2550 from current DJ of the month, Rob Bass – who put together this killer set with some amazing dubstep to satisfy your thirsty ears….

Wanted to throw another shout to Wax Wednesday busting out their 3 year anniversary with a free show from Habersham! This is going down tomorrow night and looks to be another fun night of debauchery and beats – more info here

Now here is one DJ who needs no introduction.  Sharam has been rocking it worldwide for some time now and his sets are always pushing dance music forward with heavy duty bass and essential big room tech sounds.  This weekend he will be tearing it up at club 101 – more info here

Another show we have been really excited about is Thee-O heading to Mbar on March 5th! This dude has been playing alongside some of the best DJs in the world in festivals and underground parties.  His sets are always impressive no matter what the crows demands and he will get you moving no question! See you on the dance floor here!

Don’t forget about JT Donaldson on the 24th @ the Garden! The link is on the previous post as well as the info on Dustin Zahn – another dope underground production! March is right around the corner and that means First Fridays @ La Parada are back so lookout for that one posted next week! Much Love!

What’s goin’ on

Hope everyone stayed nice and warm for the big snow that just hit! With power going out, closed streets and ice everywhere it was a major change for the area. Alot of events got closed or postponed due to the weather so now that things are looking brighter and warmer – it’s time to look at what we got coming up! First AMP’s Sinfulness Night with Nestor, Manny G. and Alex N. is rescheduled for tomorrow night with Spy & Che warming things up for a night of sin – don’t miss it! More info here

We wanted to give the Worthy show another shout because damn, the dude is producing some sick tracks right now! Check out his new release on Discobelle – ‘Big Perm’ click here to have a listen. The show is on the 19th and looks to be a great one with sets from Aler, NO+NE plus regulars Spy & Che. We will def be there – more info here

One we mentioned at the end of last week’s post was the amazing M.A.N.D.Y. coming through on the 19th as well. From the legendary Get Physical Label, these two have been rocking the dope remixes, deep sets and all around bad ass-ness that has led them to their current state of well due popularity.  This one is at Wet Ultra Lounge and it looks pretty promising! More info here

Wax Wednesdays are celebrating their 3 year anniversary with Habersham coming back through with local heavy hitter Bionic playing at Soho Lounge on the 23rd. Their anniversary celebration continues into March and they will be announcing a second part to this event so I recommend staying tuned and seeing what they got up their sleeves! You can keep up here

Darkroom Saturdays are still looking dope as ever with a great lineup this week.  They have Chef, Blis, Alfredo Maci, Noevol and Brian Camarena rocking out with the excellent vibe and beautiful people. Looks like a night of top notch house and deep dubby beats from this local lineup and we love supporting such an underground idea.  More info here

One of our favorite house DJs is coming back to EP this month and we couldn’t be more excited! Make sure to make it out Feb. 24th for the stunning JT Donaldson! This dude never disappoints – with super sexy sleek vocals, deep monstrous bass and that ever so funky essential vibe, he always rocks it.  This time it will be at The Garden and he will be playing with Casa Yeno from Phoenix.  Opening up are J-En and Slowhands. Click here for more info.

The incredible techno producer Dustin Zahn will be headed here on the 26th @ M-Bar.  With the deep dark, heavy sounds Dustin has been releasing, expect this to be one bangin’ show.  As the head of the labels Enemy Records and Abiotic Recordings he is well known for commanding an impressive set garnering respect and accolades with some of the biggest clubs and names in techno.  Make sure not to miss this one! More info here

Well, that about wraps it up for today folks. There is still quite a few shows on the radar like Sharam and Thee-O plus other local events, so please hit us up with any shows you may like to post up here – and any feedback is appreciated! Thanks!

Next!

Hello again! Thanks for heading back! So next we have February’s lineup and things are looking great! First off we need to mention that Robert Babicz has been postponed until May unfortunately, but Pastilla Digital tells us there will definitely be a reschedule.  La Parada is this week with a potent lineup featuring Zechs Marquise jamming live and Zeque Peña, JayTee, Rob Bass & System A on the decks. More info here. Don’t forget to scope out our new DJ of the month Rob Bass for a new mix and interview!

Soho lounge has things picking up with Dirty Fridays and this week looks hot with the Dustcity favs Octavio and Zeke Noevol rocking the spot.  Residents Vinn-e and Deftech will be rounding out the lineup and we have to say we really enjoy the vibe at Soho, and the deals are looking perfect for getting a break from that rough week.  More info here

This week Darkroom Saturdays is keeping it fresh with a dope diverse lineup! We hear the vibe is chill, the sounds are killer top-notch and this week the DJs are playing some house and breaks.  Its only $5 and you can bring your own drinks so this is an excellent option for some Saturday night dancing. More info here

Need a fix for a big ass show? Well here is one for ya’…Above and Beyond are seriously sick at dropping dope sets wherever they go and I am pretty sure this will be no different, this time on the 18th at the Sunshine in Albuquerque. Now I am not a huge trance fan or anything, but this act is definitely one to catch. SMG has been doing it huge in New Mexico and this year looks great from the group. More info here

Speaking of Albuquerque the annual hip hop show Breakin Hearts is back again and it has always been an amazing show.  With B-boy battles, workshops, art and live music this one is truly underground – dont sleep! More info here

Dont forget about Worthy coming up this month on the 19th, as well as Dustin Zahn, Sharam, M.A.N.D.Y. and more!  Check back next week for those shows and more!

Bass Fiends

Hey! Sorry about the delay, we have been hella busy here – but don’t fret ‘cuz we got all the news you have been looking for! First off we had an amazing weekend with the people at Electric Soul and at Manik.  The art was incredible at Electric Soul with stuff from Miguel Ibarra, Rasquatch and Zeque Pena to name a couple and the music was on point at both spots! We want to give big props to Maintain and Listen:React for always bringing the best in quality events for the underground, big big thanks and love guys! Here is a few more shots and a couple vids:

Art by Migs

Next up we are excited to see a new Bass night in El Paso open up at commonwealth, starting tomorrow! This one is going down every third Thursday and with Rob Bass, System and DLS bringing it proper this night is a must go to! Expect a ton of great tunes and make sure to make it out to ensure lots more lo blows from these bass champs! More info here

February is turning out to look like an AMAZING month with a ton of top talent coming through, and first we are super excited to see Robert Babicz coming on Feb 12th to El Paso! This is one hell of a headliner with his studio mastery knocking it out of the park anytime he releases a track! If you think you are a good producer, just try to remix one of his tracks and post it on soundcloud – and he will give feedback EXACTLY how he feels.  He made a name for himself as Rob Acid – making banging tech and acid tracks for quite a while and now he is regarded as a true studio master.  Take some time out to make it to this show, we guarantee an incredible night! Special thanks to Pastilla for bringing out the big guns this year - click here.

Next we have AMP bringing another big name – Worthy, fromthe DirtyBird Label.  Worthy is a super in-demand name in the house circuit right now, alongside major players like Claude Von Stroke and J Phlip.  With a string of solid releases on quite a few prominent labels such as Curfew, Om and Utensil as well as his own label Katabatic Records – worthy is destroying dancefloors worldwide with that bangin’ bass sound. Opening they have Aler & Payolet as well as Spy & Che. Make sure to make it out! More info here

One last one real quick that we heard about is legendary lyricist Black Thought coming through El Paso on Jan 29th.  The info is kinda slim but it will be at Wet Ultra Lounge and the fliers are already out but no fb page for the event.  Really though, what else do you need to know? It’s Black Thought! As if being in the seminal hip hop group The Root wasn’t enough – this major inspiration from Philly has worked with just about all of the best producers in the world and his next level conscious rhymes  are always elevating the game.  Tickets at ticketbully and more info here

So there is still a grip of shows to be excited about and quite a few still to be announced so make sure to head back and see what we got! Thanks again always for supporting the underground and making things happen! Love! See you next time!
