Keep It Movin’

So Tanner Ross was pretty amazing from what we caught, and the dude was an all around great guy, big props to AMP once again for bringing the real.  We only got a few shots that night but click on a image to get the full res, the club was vibing really well and unfortunately we had to call it a night early because that nasty bug that’s been going around caught up with someone.

La Parada First Fridays was apparantly amazing again although we didn’t make it for this one :/ .  We found a couple videos you can check out here! Definitely some serious talent and awesome people going through there so we are making sure not to miss it again!

Eli Escobar is coming in from New York to drop a set on the 13th this week at The Garden. His track selections never fails to impress and he has the chops to prove lasting determination in music.  They have Cobos from Pastilla opening for Eli as well as Jen and Slowhands putting down tunes that night.  Sounds like fun! We want to also shout out local heavy hitters from Dust City Music doing a dope night for AMP at Mbar tomorrow night, Jan 12th! With the tracks these guys produce and style they bring this is a must see event for fans of great tech sounds.  They got Borderline Skitzo, Octavio, Dabsound and Dan E bringing it down steady with Spy and Che opening up the night. Don’t forget about the new Saturday night spot Darkroom Satudays @ 1475George Dieter.  We heard the spot was poppin’ last week with great vibes and awesome people.  It is BYOB so you can save a few bucks while having a good time with your friends! We really want to catch this and come back with some photos. This week they have badman DLS ripping it up with Parasight, Just Mike and old favorite Darkstarr. Check it out here!

End of the Year!

Ok, so here we are at the last month of another year about to head on by! This one has been particularly great for us with things picking up around here and getting involved in lots of great new things.  Be sure to scope out our DJ of the month section in the 25fifty DJs and check out Ephew aka Brian PD on his rise to the top.

First off, we gotta shout AMP bringing another solid headliner to their Wednesday Lineup on Jan 8th for a killer show. Residing on the Dirty Bird label Tanner Ross has left an indelible impression in a short amount of time, working with a who’s who list of ‘A’ class talent from around the world. More info here.  Don’t forget about AMP’s one year big bash coming up very soon – the 18th of this month to be exact with the incredible Carlo Lio, scope it out here.

Quite a bit of the dope talent that has been coming through EP is courtesy of Listen:React and their huge 1 year is scheduled Dec. 17th with JPLS from the M_nus label coming through, and we are really glad to see this one.  Cj Tari is about as dedicated as they come,  so huge props to him for keeping things locked down! The night has a top class El Paso lineup with sets from Deftech, Roberto Apodaca, Saal and more - click here for more info!

First Fridays at La Parada is scheduled to be off the hook again this week with DLS joining Rob Bass & System along with house master RayDub! We have been hearing the best about this lately, with live art, and even Frontera Bugalu playing too! So make sure to make it through! More info here.

Next is a quick shout to Rik PD & DJ Spy setting up things at 2900 Lounge on Fridays with deep house! This week he joins Ed Chalace and TRiST on the decks so expect some expertly crafted deep sounds on the cut! 2900 is an excellent place for that nice, upscale vibe – check it out here and at http://goto2900.com/

Next we just had to point to the logic of this next Albuquerque party, Logic Toga! It is a no pants party where you gotta move that rump to stay warm! Lol j/k but this original idea is brought to you by ‘The Chamber of Calmers” and looks to be going off pretty damn proper with a diverse lineup including Adem Joel, J. Bowra, Moleman and more! Don’t miss it this weekend, more info here.

Albuquerque, being known for something different and unique approaches to things, brings another awesome idea promoting art, photography, music,  fine wine- all within a party format that ups the level of quality.  Projection looks to be shaping up very nice for Dec. 9th, so please check out the art, photography and listen to tunes spun by Cappuccino! More here.

Ok that’s the quick start to December, but stay tuned, because our gear wishlist is coming very soon along with a gaming page so stay tuned! BRB…

Fall Lineup!

Hey! Hope everyone had an awesome Halloween this year as we move further into the fall.  Next weekend marks the time change so enjoy that extra hour to sleep in but unfortunately at the loss of daylight.  There was a bunch of good parties recently celebrating the ghoulish holiday and we saw some amazing costumes.

First off we want to announce some small changes around the site – we have a new layout, tell us what you think of it. We are also going to be adding a couple new pages one for art and another for video games so make sure to check those out.  Also look for featured DJs to show up in the 2550 DJs section where each month we will feature a local DJ to spotlight.

Ok on to some shows! Daedelus with Gasslamp Killer and Free the Robots on the 18th of this month! This will be the first time Daedelus comes to El Paso and we also get to see our good friend System Addict to open up for the amazing lineup, definitely a huge show!  Speaking of System Addict – he is also a part of the successful night at La Parada First Fridays where there has been a consistent turn out each month with a ton of awesome DJs making their way through, make sure to check out the next one on Nov. 5th.

The good peeps at Late Night Social Club have been doing an excellent job of bringing out raw talent and their 1 year celebration is coming up with a blessing from ?uest Love of Roots fame stopping though El Paso on Nov.13th! It will be a funky soulful night in the place with this main hip hopper so make sure not to miss it.  More info here. UPDATE – LNSC has said in an official statement, “I REGRET TO INFORM YOU THAT DUE TO A SCHEDULING CONFLICT WITH THE ROOTS QUESTLOVE’S HIGHLY ANTICIPATED DJ SET IN EL PASO WILL BE POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE” So we will have to keep you posted on when he may make that appearance.

One of our favorite local techno crews Pastilla Digital is bringing out Oliver Huntemann on Nov. 20th. He has a diverse techno sound and plays some amazing clubs with a penchant for the deep style.  His releases have been consistent on labels like Ideal Audio, Data Punk and International DeeJay Gigolo to name a few. With Pastilla backing up Huntemann this will be a great show, click here to find out more.

Shows are popping lately in Albuquerque, and one we would love to shout out is Mark Farina coming back for his Mushroom Jazz tour. Now I have seen Mark a few times, but only once has he played that Mushroom Jazz style, so let’s hope he brings out the downtempo funk again! If he doesn’t don’t fret, because the man can rock a house set with the best of ‘em. Check it out on Nov 17th up north, more info .

AMP is one of El Paso’s biggest underground EDM supporters, bringing a ton of new DJs into the spotlight and rocking out with some of the best headliners out there. On Dec 18th they are bringing the techno auteur Carlo Lio out! We are super happy about this because Carlo’s tracks have been knocking it out of the park lately and he is getting play from some of the top DJs around the world, so expect some incredible new sounds from this guy - more info here!

Keep your eyes peeled for lots more shows not mentioned here, there is tons to check out in these cold nights so let us know about your favorite spots coming up! Our next big list will be the holiday gift guide bringing all our top picks for gadgets, goodies and gifts! Thanks for all the support and see you back here soon!!

Defining Graffiti

Exhaust

How many times have you ever wanted to leave your mark? Leave an impression – make a statement, prove that you existed? Have you ever wanted to just give up on the constraints of society and pursue a life of solitude, writing in anonymity to free your mind and soul while defining a moment? Well, I certainly have – and today I would like to share some of my love for one of the most raw, uncut and pure forms of expression out there; graffiti art.

rapes

Graffiti has come a long way since before the 70′s when it started to precipitate cultural momentum.  It has come full circle, almost to the realm of pop art, where objects embody material kitsch in their presentation or imitation of street art. Legal productions are the norm, and big name graff artists are making bucks and gaining serious recognition in major gallery spaces world wide.

totem

Today I wanted to give a few examples of artists I really regard as keeping the form alive, and some favorites I have always admired.  Graffiti is the cement that binds the elements of hip hop together, emulating the curves and angles sharply performed by a B- Boy or the swagger and design of an Emcee’s metaphors.  It is essential to understanding the the urban nature of hip hop, growing from the plight of the individual against the media storm of advertisements.  It is a struggle, a balance between the Id and the Ego, a definition of the moment.

Ges

Graffiti is relative to us all, giving insight into the passions that motivate an individual. The will to construct a timeline of essence, an edifice of being.  The true nature of graffiti is revolution, discontent and rebellion – it must always remain simultaneously revered and detested, it must always remain the subject of controversy and punishment.  There are risks that must be taken.

Our good friend Path One has been tearing it up lately, most notably at the Mile High Fest in CO, here’s a pic of my boy with Slug, of Atmosphere fame.

and heres a few more from his rampage:

Plus here is some of his associates -

Thanks for checking back with us, we have some exciting updates!  Matthew Dear was incredible! Unfortunately no pics were taken, D’oh! The crowd was a little thin, but he seriously killed. Tonight is Porcupine Tree in El Paso, so expect some footage from this one. We got TRiST getting a slot in monday nights @ Azul in the Hotel Encanto in Las Cruces – spinning some underground hip hop with DJs; DZ1 , Grand, Pervee and more!

Check back soon for more updates – PEACE

Random!

So this week we would like to share some of our favorite things coming across our radar lately. The interesting spring weather brings high vibes with plenty of random crazy things to check out. We have been busy getting new reviews, mixes and photos up on the site and keeping the underground alive, with lots ahead including some animation and film projects.

First up, Charlie Immer ; an innovative artist with an interesting balance between lighthearted surrealism and dark disturbing detail.  Upon first glance, the compositions can appear whimsical, yet when the narrative takes a hold of your mind, the twisted world of Charlie Immer is fascinating and even frightening.  His work ranges from decent sized paintings to illustrations, prints and designs.  One thing I really noticed is how ‘wet’ some of his surfaces appear- the lighting, texture and transparency effects are great.  I definitely recommend keeping an eye on this artist!

An album we have been jamming out to lately is the new piece by  The Timewriter ; “Tiefenschon”, and we definitely have another tech-house masterpiece on our hands. The production from the mind, ears and hands of Jean F. Cochois has dealt out some of the most complex, yet divinely simple tracks resulting in regular play around the world from some of the top DJs and his catalog of releases fetch some very high prices for the vinyl.  Check out and buy the album here.

An interesting story is one of the new iphone prototype dubbed ‘HD’, which was left at a bar in California recently and then found and sold to a website with much drama ensuing! The design looks awesome, the features are on-point, but I guess we’ll have to see what happens when it comes out.  You can read the interesting story here. I bet somebody got fired for that mistake!

As far as upcoming shows, we are super excited to see none other than the master himself: John Digweed!!! SMG is the promoters responsible for this and we salute!!! Awesome choice, plus more coming up like Danny Howells. You can check out the dates and info here .  We will definitely have more updates and news from the show here so definitely make it, or check back with us.  We were lucky enough to catch Diggers and Sasha when they played at Global Dance at Redrocks last year – one word: superb! It’s no wonder these guys can keep the rep they got, because they really are incredible.

Last we got some love for the nerds out there.  A new game written and developed as a love letter to classic gaming is 3D Dot Game Heroes. This title plays like a nostalgic nod to games like Legend of Zelda and Dragon Warrior with a flair for unique game play and visuals. It also has a feature where you can edit and design your own character with an insane amount of customization and detail available to the player.  We hope to see the retro game revival surge from this title, kudos to the team: developed by Silicon Studio and published by From Software in Japan.  A couple cool portables we have been checking out are both the Dingoo:

and the GPX Wiz:

Both of which are awesome emulators capable of some serious gaming.  Both can run a linux based firmware, but the GPX comes with better hardware and almost double the price of the Dingoo.  If you are a fan of playing classic games on the go, I recommend checking these out!

Thanks for stopping by and we would like to share with you a funny video by our friend Path One who has been working on some hilarious videos . Stay Fresh!

PEACE

25Fifty is back!
